27 APR | Mediation During Isolation: Web-seminar
Web-seminar:
Mediation During Isolation
on 27 April, 6.30 – 7.30 pm
@Zoom
In civil crisis management, peace mediation is an important tool to support the resolution of conflicts. The UN Guidance for Effective Mediation describes it as “a process whereby a third party assists two or more parties, with their consent, to prevent, manage or resolve a conflict by helping them to develop mutually acceptable agreements”. Thus, mediation is based on personal interaction and exchange.
In times of contact locking mediation work faces a number of challenges with using online conference calling rather than in-person workshops and activities, a lack of reliable internet access, poor-quality video/audio interfaces and an inability to effectively build trust between new partners and participants over online conference calls. But every crisis also offers opportunities for change. For example, many states such as Yemen and Colombia have followed up on the ceasefire called by the UN.
In our web-seminar series „Mediation During Isolation“ we want to talk about the opportunities and challenges for meditation in times of Corona. We will start with Hannah Neumann, Member of the European Parliament (The Greens).
