Food security, development cooperation and independence in Africa

The program „Focus Africa“ is pleased to invite you to a digital Zoom discussion on food security development cooperation and independence in and with Africa on Wednesday, April 10, 2024 from 18:00-19:00!

The effects of Russias war on Ukraine for international and particularly African food security have shown once more the intricacies of a globally interconnected agriculture economy. At the same time, western countries face scrutiny for their agricultural trade policies while being increasingly restrictive over migration that may at least be partially caused by these policies. How can a new north-south cooperation look like, that increases food security for all? What are policies and initiatives that can come from Africa itself? And how can this be combined with the desires of African countries to use agriculture for their economical growth? To discuss this, we are pleased to welcome the following two perspectives:

Anthony K. C. Collins works at a major Bank in Liberia. He founded the Grow Big Group in 2023 which grows chickens and produces eggs to support the local community. At the same time, the farm supports local schools, auch as the Children of Africa School System (CASS). He developed his ideas during an internship in Germany.

Dr. Michael Brüntrup is senior researcher at the German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS), a Think-Tank based in Bonn, which is regularly rated among the top three think-tanks worldwide regarding development policy. His main areas of work include agricultural (trade) policy, supply chains, rural development and food security with a particular regional focus on Africa.

Jona Grimm will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
