30 September | connectingAsia und WANA, Sahel & Beyond present:

China’s economic policy in Africa – a sense of
urgency for global supply chains?

Join us for our discussion regarding China’s economic interests and policies in Africa!

What are China’s strategic interests in expanding supply chain
trade on the African continent?

In this Panel Discussion we talk with Ovigwe Eguegu and Xinyue Ma about the strategic interests of China in expanding their supply chain trade on the African continent. Despite Africa’s small share of world trade, China is expanding their supply chain trade on the African continent with the result that African countries are increasingly participating in global value chains. China finances through credits, among other things, the development of infrastructure on the African continent, which is also a major opportunity for the Chinese Belt-and-Road-Initiative (BRI).

30th September, 18:30 – 20:00 Uhr

Besides the focus on the strategic interests of China, we also want to address questions like:

Can the Chinese economic engagement in Africa be juxtaposed with the Europeans”? and “Will the rising foreign competition in the African market benefit the Africans”?

We are very happy to announce two great speakers for this event:

  • Ovigwe Eguegu, policy analyst at Development Reimagined. He has a special focus on geopolitics and geo-economics with particular reference to Africa in a changing Global Order.
  • Xinyue Ma, China Research and Project Lead at the Global Development Policy Center (GDP Center) at Boston University and expert on China’s overseas development finance.
