Anti-Corruption Demonstrations in Bulgaria
Consequences and Options for further Actions

For months during 2020, anti-corruption protests were taking place in Bulgaria, shedding light on the connections between wealthy oligarchs, political decision-makers, and the judicial system. The European Union took no clear action towards the demonstrations, and it seems that the anti-corruption measures and initiatives against organized crime have run into the void. The following policy brief describes six concrete short-and long-term actions that could be taken by decision-makers in the European Union to promote anti-corruption policies in Bulgaria.
